Welcome to our Standards-Based Grading Site
Lineville Intermediate School has moved from the "Omnibus" style of grading (A, B, C, D, F) to a Standards-Based system (4, 3, 2, 1) based off of the research by Robert Marzano, Ken O'Connor, Doug Reeves, and Rick Wormeli. There have been numerous changes in education and accountability in the last couple of years which has prompted our school to seek a better way to not only teach higher level thinking but to report out on student academic progress separate from non-academic factors (effort, participation, behavior, etc.). Our teachers have been working very hard to understand the new Common Core State Standards and adjust their teaching accordingly. In addition, teachers have been re-writing assessments to provide students opportunities to achieve different levels of understanding. To do that, we need to be very clear on the "3"-Target learning goal. We then write a rubric for each standard so that every teacher in that grade level has the same understanding of what a 4, 3, 2, 1 would look like. We are VERY excited with the level of learning and academic focus that we are able to provide to the students this year!
